Edson: I was born and grew up near Cuernavaca, Mexico. At the age of 20, I moved to the United States, with a desire and calling to become a pastor. In 2005, I studied to receive my Associates Degree in Bible from Gwen Hendrix Hispanic Biblical Institute in South Carolina. Upon return to Kansas City, I served as a youth pastor. In 2007, I began attending La Primera Iglesia del Nazareno, where I fell in love with my beautiful wife, Krista (Barkley) Palacios. We were married on July 5, 2008. We have 2 boys together, who are the joy of my life. Josiah was born in 2010 and Judah in 2012.
In 2010, Krista and I felt God’s calling to start-up a Hispanic Ministry in our home. A few months later, New Hope welcomed our growing ministry to become a part of their church, and we have been blessed in ministry here ever since. Krista and I were both ordained as elders in the Church of the Nazarene together in July 2015.
My favorite hobby is futbol (soccer) and cheering for Las Aguilas de Club America. My favorite foods are enchiladas and picaditas which thankfully my mother has taught Krista how to make with salsa picante! I love worship music and my favorites are Marcos Barrientos, Marcos Witt, Juan Carlos Alvarado, and Jesus Adrian Romero.
My favorite Scripture comes from Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Krista: I grew up in a small town in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I graduated from Shenandoah University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and became an RN in 2002. After working in Pediatric Nursing several years, I moved to Kansas City to study at Nazarene Theological Seminary, where I received my Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies in 2008. While at NTS I began attending La Primera Iglesia del Nazareno, where I met my wonderful husband, Edson Palacios. We were married July 5, 2008. We have two beautiful boys together, Josiah and Judah, who joined our family in 2010 and 2012. I also continue to work as an RN in mid-town Kansas City.
My favorite hobbies are reading and taking my kids swimming. My favorite food is Indian. My favorite music is Christian praise and worship, both English and Spanish. I love Kari Jobe, Jesus Adrian Romero, and Marcela Gandera.
One of my favorite Scriptures comes from Isaiah 40:31:
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Yo nací y crecí cerca de Cuernavaca, México. A la edad de 20 años, yo llegué aquí a los Estados Unidos, con un deseo y llamado para ser un pastor. En 2005, yo estudie para recibir mi título del Asociado de Biblia de la escuela de Gwen Hendrix Instituto Bíblico para Hispanos en Sur de Carolina. Regresando a Kansas City, yo serví como pastor de jóvenes. En 2007, yo comencé a ir a La Primera Iglesia del Nazareno, donde me enamor de mi hermosa esposa, Krista (Barkley) Palacios. Nos casemos el 5 de Julio, 2008. Tenemos 2 hijos, quienes son el gozo de mi vida. Josiah nació en 2010 y Judah nació en 2012.
En 2010, Krista y yo sentimos una llamada para comenzar un ministerio Hispano aquí en el Norte de Kansas City en nuestro hogar. Algunos meses después, la Iglesia de New Hope nos invitó para ser parte de su iglesia, y hemos sido bendecidos para estar en ministerio aquí desde entonces. En Julio de 2015, Krista y Yo recibimos juntos la ordenación como ministros en la Iglesia del Nazareno.
Amo mucho el futbol, y mi equipo favorito es Las Águilas de Club América perdonenme todos los fanes de Chivas! Mis dos comidas favoritas son enchiladas y picaditas gracias a mi mama por enseñar a Krista como cocinarlas con salsa picante! Amo mucho tambien la musica de adoracion y mis favoritas para escuchar son Marcos Barrientos, Marcos Witt, Juan Carlos Alvarado, y Jesus Adrian Romero.
De las Escrituras, mi verso favorito es Josué 1:9: Mira que te mando que te esfuerces y seas valiente; no temas ni desmayes, porque Jehová tu Dios estar contigo en dondequiera que vayas.
